WORLD OF WINE - Discover USA & South Africa

The USA and South Africa have one thing in common. A very chequered history in the wine industry. Both have very different wine styles and philosophies, but one thing is for certain, both are producing some remarkable wines.

When we think of the USA, we think of CaliforniaOregon and WashingtonZinfandel and Chardonnay. All produce some wonderful wines, but there is so much more coming out of this wine giant. The 4th largest producer in the world USA can boast that they produce wine in all 50 States are really coming to the party with their new wave winemakers producing some stunning SyrahRiesling and Tempranillo to add to their world renowned Chardonnays, Pinot Noirs and Bordeaux type Blends.

South Africa, although with a wine industry that dates back 300 years, are the ‘new kids on the block’. Wines that have become synonymous with South Africa, such as Pinotage and Chenin Blanc started to re-appear on our shelves in the mid nineties and as time has gone on, the quality has improved exponentially.

With young winemakers desperate to prove their worth and setting off to foreign shore to learn the winemaking skills from the greatest wine regions of the world has come a tide of new wonderful wines and styles. Fresh, fruity and ripeSauvignon Blanc, complex, savoury Cabernet Sauvignon, chocolaty spicy Shiraz and citrusy Chardonnay have become the norm in a nation building its name in a massively competitive world.
