ITALIAN WINE & ANITPASTO EVENING
Antipasto - meaning 'before the meal' - is the traditional first course of a formal Italian meal. Typical ingredients of a traditional antipasto include cured meats, olives, peperoncini, mushrooms, anchovies, artichoke hearts, various cheeses, pickled meats, and vegetables in oil or vinegar.
What better way to celebrate these than with some carefully selected, scrumptious wines as we chat about what works and what doesn't, find some awesome combinations and some very tasty wines that you may not have come accross before.
Remember the adage 'what grows well together, goes well together'? Well, in Italy, this is certainly the case, and as we travel round italy on our tasting we will certainly be testing this theory out. We'll be traversing accross Northern Italy, where we could be trying some Arneis or Dolcetto from Piemonte, or perhaps a Gewürztraminer from Alto Adige or a Ripasso paired with Bresaola, Prosciutto, Mushrooms, Chestnuts, Crostini or Roasted Red Pepper. We may then find ourselves wending our way down the Appenines, perhaps trying Malvasia or Vermentino or Sangiovese or Montepulciano with Finocchiona, Felino, Olives, Garlic, Capers, Kale. Finally we'll probably kick about the foot of Italy maybe pairing some Fiano, Falanghina, Aglianico, or Negroamaro with Soppressata, Capocollo, Tomatoes, Olive Oil, Peppers, Artichokes or Anchovies.
Sounds mouth-watering? It is!
So why not join us on our journey of antipasto and wine discovery and see just why the Italians have got the marriage of food and wine so right.
