WORLD OF WINE - Grand Tour of France
PART 1 - France is all about appellations and ‘Terroir’, but don’t let that put you off, because, as well as being the home of Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne, it is arguably the world's most important wine-producing country in the world. For centuries, it has produced wine in greater quantity – and perhaps quality – than any other nation and has the richest heritage to match.
No other place comes close to matching France for sheer number of bench-mark wines. Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Grenache, Syrah, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc still achieve their finest expressions on French soil.
As we wander through some of the most famous wine producing areas of the world, from the prestigious and famous Bordeaux region to the regal wines of Burgundy and the diversity of the Rhone, we will sample some of their delights as we come to grips with the different styles, regions and the labelling system.
And we won't just stick to the famous areas either. There are some wonderful wines to try from the Loire, and some great value for money wines but still exceptional quality wines coming out of the Languedoc as well. We'll taste some of these too.
There is a veritable smorgasbord of wine to choose from, from around the world, but when it comes to quality and variety, France still rules!
PART 2 - All the information you need to know about the wine is on the label - problem is, sometime it is so hard to understand. This can sometimes be very intimidating. So, on this evening, we will also be looking at 'Decoding the Label'. We will break down the label, show you what it means, which bits are relevant, and which bits are just marketing hype. Once you get the hang of it, it will make your buying experience so much more pleasurable!!!
All tastings include; minimum of 6 wines sourced locally so you can find them easily if you like them, full tasting notes, tasting sheet, use of professional tastings glasses and nibbles.
